Other Skills

I am also proficient in documenting and developing company specific web standards, writing other forms of online documentation that may be required, preparing business cases, application interface design and development, usability design, information architecture, web site accessibility guidelines and cross browser compatibility.

My personal strengths in a working environment include working under extreme pressure, working to deadlines, mentoring junior/ less experienced team members and coming up with extensible solutions to problems that may arise.

  • Regrettably this was a pure bug fixing job; to put right what others had done wrong, so there were no key achievements, other than meeting the go live date.

The Stationary Office (TSO)

TSO provides publishing, document and information management services in multiple formats and media for the public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
  • Building of Combustion Application form for installations and mobile plants using XML/ XSLT to display the form through a web browser
  • Using HTTP+XML load existing XML data created from other proprietary Excel spreadsheet and/ or Access database applications and then using DOM to populate specific parts of the form
  • Consulting on design and useability of the application
  • Documenting all work done

Key Achievements
  • Coming in with only a month to build the form and completing all duties assigned to me working from an unfinished functional specification
  • Writing a script to load XML data into the form, which was not in the original job specification I received, something which took the previous vendor 2 months to complete but only took me 5 days and writing it properly so it could be reused as opposed to the previous version which was not extensible
  • Working with no previous documentation and very little from TSO's previous vendor to build figure out how the whole application worked on my own and with little time and completing the job
  • Improving functionality and maintainability of the form by removing all presentation layer information from the actual form and placing it in style sheets
  • Improving look and feel of form to increase useability

Responsibilities
  • Helping with migration of old content to new look and feel for static and application page.

  • Coming in towards the later stage of the project and helping with content migration with very little briefing and time to get to know the site.
  • Editing application DLL files with no prior knowledge of how to do so and successfully re-skinning them as well as bringing them close to the XHTML 1.0 standard.

  • Development, maintenance and testing of all presentation layer code for all IAG corporate websites
  • Ensure all IAG websites conform to visual style guides and coding standards
  • Maintenance of content management system presentation templates for all websites
  • Developing & evolving web presentation layer solutions to meet changing business, technical and user needs
  • Ensure quality of user experience. That site problems and errors are fixed quickly
